Getting in touch with nature

Recently I was thinking about how I love to live in green areas yet often don't spend enough time exploring them! So this year I have decided to find out a little more about where  I live and whats on for people to get involved in.

Im starting close to home with Astbury Mere which is pretty much my extended back garden.

In summer 100s flock to its fake beaches and if it snows the steep hills around the outside of the mere are used for sledging by all. Along with being one of the best dog walking areas in Congleton, there is also a watersports centre open in summer which offers windsurfing, sailing and canoeing allowing everyone to try something new.

Last month I was there when it was snowing and as I walked round with the seagulls standing on the thin layer of ice and the swans glidding through the remaining water it just shows how you don't need to go far to find nature.

Currently on at the mere is a weekly parkrun which is a free timed 5km run every Saturday morning at 9am, and all you have to do is register here, great for getting out in the fresh air, the park also hosts a Junior branch of the Wildlife Trusts, where young people can learn about nature with activities every month, to find out more about it click here.

Do you know of anything else taking place at Astbury Mere? Feel free to get in touch

Love
